Vaccines-Health
No vaccine is required for travelers from Europe. There is no risk of malaria
in Mauritius or Rodrigues.
Visa formalities
Anyone visiting Mauritius must hold a passport valid for six months after
the date of return.
Other conditions: The traveler must be in possession of a return ticket
and sufficient funds to cover his holiday expenses.
Nationals of the European Union do not need a visa.
For all other nationalities please contact the embassy of Mauritius in
Paris.

Currency-Payment
The unit of currency in Mauritius is the Rupee (Rs), which is available
only when one is in Mauritius.
1 € = 33 Rs : Change and credit cards
The rate is fixed, only the commission varies.
To buy a currency, you can change your Euros as well as your traveler's
checks in foreign exchange offices, banks, hotels or at the airport.
American Express, Diners, MasterCard and Visa cards are accepted in Mauritius
in shops, restaurants, hotels, banks… |
Public Holidays
There are about 15 public holidays a year. New year: 1 and 2 January
Independence Day /Republic Day: March 12
Labor Day: May 1
Assumption: August 15
Christmas: Dec. 25
Two other celebrations have been added to the fixed public holidays:
Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery: February 1
Arrival of the first Indian emigrants: November 2
There are seven other holidays, celebrations of religious holidays whose
dates vary from year to year.

Religion
Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism coexist peacefully. There are
places of worship across the island. The religious service in the Catholic
Church is in French. |
